In the past geothermal energy was used by the Romans, Chinese, and the Native Americans.They used it for bathing, cooking, and heating. The Romans also used it to worship their gods and goddeses.The Native Americans thought that it hadspecial healing powers. They used it for healing places.Also, the Italians were the first to use it for industry.
Today we still use it for bathing and some people still think that it has healing powers. We also use it for pools, health spas, and to heat buildings with plants. In Iceland almost all the homes are heated by geothermal energy. We also use geothermal energy to make electricity.
In the future lots of people could have heat pumps in thier homes.We could also be able to get geothermal energy from deeper in the earth. Also, geothermal energy could be everywhere because we would be able to make our own geothermal energy.In the future geothermal energy could be as much as 10% of the USA's energy supply.

How it works in the future!! Cold water gets pumped into hot, dry rock from a borehole. Then, the water flows through the hot rock and gets heated up.After that, it returns to the surface through another borehole.
How it works now!! First,somthing called a borehole is drilled into the ground and a pipe is installed to bring up the hot water. When the water is brought up it is seperated into steam and waste water.The steam goes up and turns the turbine, which turns the rotor, which makes the generator go.
